I have been threatening to buy a winch for a while now, and just after Christmas I decided to take the plunge!!

And came away with one of these in the 10,000lb variety!
Now, It's all well and good having a winch but it needs a very secure mounting point:
We start with one perfectly good H/D bumper and mark up the width to be cut out
Cut the big strip out and make sure the winch fits between the sides
Then get a suitably sized length of 7" channel. and weld it into the gap.
Doesn't seem to stick out too far!!
Then add a 10mm strip to add rear support and brace it back to the chassis
Test fit it again to make sure it all fits nicely and to get another quick piccy ;-)
Then cut out a nice big slot for the cable to pass through
Paint it all up and call it good! Now retire indoors for a well deserved beer!
Once the paint has set and the beer has washed all the grinding dust out of your throat you can finish bolting it down!
Job Done!!
I have yet to test it properly as the engine is knackered so i can't go play yet :-( That will all change soon tho!!
